With restrictions, lockdowns and supply issues hitting both professional and DIY painters alike, shopping online for paint and painting supplies has become a necessity. How was lockdown in 2021?

 

Okay for business, bad for people. Everyone wants to see their friends and family, and here in Sydney that is starting to happen again. But a lot of people have been focused on getting back to normal and have set their Summer projects aside. So, I think we’ll see a lot of people trying to buy paint and paint accessories online so that they can catch-up. I don’t think many people want to spend time in a long line, in person, to buy paint or painting equipment.

 

Have people started to work on their projects again? 

 

Yes, to an extent. We’ve seen an increase in traffic to www.PaintAccess.com.au over January and February as people come back from the Christmas and New Year break ready to start those projects again. And our sister business www.BorisDoes.com.au - a free, Australian-based tasker platform that understandably includes a large number of painters - is getting busier and busier, which is great. BorisDoes connects ordinary Australians with tasks they need to have completed, with qualified tradies and other Taskers able to complete those tasks. It’s a great platform that allows tradies to advertise their services to new Customers.

 

 

What sort of projects are people doing at the moment?

 

As people start to socialise again, we’re seeing a lot of interest in painting projects that prepare indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces. Verandas, rendered walls, kitchens and dining rooms, and painted timber decks. One of our customers said she was restoring three pieces of vintage furniture at the same time, using chalk paint, and hoped to be finished by March!

 

That’s ambitious. How can someone like that benefit from buying paint online?

 

She learned about restoring furniture online, through YouTube and Instagram. It was easy for her to jump from one website to the other and buy everything she needed without having to take a list to a hardware store and hope they knew what she was asking about.
